independent work The following projects are a select few I've recently been involved with independently. | |||||||

RonKatz.com Ron Katz is a renowned photographer around the world, whose stunning photography evokes emotion within those who see it. His Web Site, however, lent itself poorly to showcasing some of his work. Ron Judish, his associate, approached me and asked if I would redesign the site to be more visually pleasing to the eye, as well as more navigable. The initial site had a black background, no visual flow, and overall appeared very clunky. Ron Judish, inspired by two colors during a coffee conversation – pumpkin and burnt sienna – asked me to take those and develop a simplistic, yet elegant design. He was incredibly pleased with the results. Concepts: Graphic Design, HTML, JavaScript and CSS |

Connects-Us and Awesumation.net Connects-Us approached me with the idea of creating a job-posting site that would allow then to attract potential applicants and track jobs for various placements he was filling. What started as a simple site evolved to become a system that incorporated many concepts the key stakeholder had learned in his tenure at PeopleSoft. The challenges in this project were many, and included constantly changing the system to adapt to new requests and requirements, phasing out old pieces as they became deprecated and mixing classic ASP 3.0 with new ASP.Net technologies. The system is in a process of transition, as myself and my client are conducting an audit to determine how to re-build and make it scalable. The ultimate goal is to launch it into production using an ASP (Application Service Provider) model. My roles from the beginning included gathering client requirements, drafting functional specifications, designing and building the database structures in MS SQL Server, designing interfaces, coding in HTML, JavaScript and CSS, as well as making it all work with ASP 3.0. MBSMM.com Chris McDonald with MBS MultiMode asked me to work with their graphic designer to produce their Web Site and make it function. After working with the designer on a few graphics revisions that were needed, I was able to produce the HTML, JavaScript and CSS code that was needed from the original Photoshop file. Concepts: HTML, JavaScript and CSS |

GE Access Intranet GE Access had over 70 different Intranet sites within their organization. Many of these were inconsistent, disorganized, redundant, and outdated. I assisted Texture Media with the identification and classification of each site so as to develop an assessment of their existing structure, and then turn around to propose a common structure through which to re-organize them. While the majority of the content was mapped in tabbed spreadsheets, we used Visio to create proposed site maps for the presentation. Concepts: Information Architecture |

Visual Impax
Reducing the number of clicks and providing a more efficient interface was the highest priority. The redesigned site reduces the overall number of necessary clicks to four, at the most, and also provide navigational context to the user so they are constantly aware of where in the site they are (wayfinding). What used to be a 5MB Flash portfolio was broken apart into database-driven pages that allow the user to quickly view floor plans, photo galleries and technical drawings. Equally important, it allows the client to make updates and changes. Concepts: Usability, Information Architecture, Graphic Design, HTML, JavaScript and CSS |
